this world renouned place did not exist the last time we visited.
Walmart.
Thats right: they are rolling back prices in China. Shorts for $1.50, shirts
for $0.95, motorcycles for $300. As soon as we heard the rumor back in Mongolia
about Walmart Beijing, we made it our goal to seek it out and search it from
top to bottom for American Products. We figured that since Walmart in the
States is filled with Chinese products, it would be nice if Walmart in China
would have at least one American product.
Of course, no clothing, no electronics, no cheap plastic toys would come all
the way to China from America. It would have to be a specialty item. We
searched high and low until our searches brought us to the grocery section.
Nothing. Not the Lays Potato Chips, not the M&Ms, not the Pantene, not even the
Pringles. Of course, not the Coca-Cola either. There was a sign of hope when I
caught a Cheerios box out of the corner of my eye but turns out Chinese
Cheerios are made by Nestle Asia. I then saw the alcohol section in the back.
Upon entering, I imediately saw Budweiser, the King of Beers, it doesn't get
more American than that, right?! Wrong: brewed by Asian Brewing Company, Korea.
But at last, there it was, we found it, after several hours on 4 different
floors (thats right 4 floors of Walmart fun), we found it. Straight from the
stills of Kentucky, Wild Turkey. That's it folks. The one and only American
product that made it to Walmart Beijing.
So, I ask you: is it really about "Bringing it Home to the USA"?

Or maybe it is really only about "Always Low Prices. Always."
Even all the way over here in China.
